Name:
Yara
Gender:
Female
Holiday:
Christmas
Yara loves Christmas because of... well... every aspect of the holiday! She loves the chilly air that sweeps in across the ponds and oceans, the gorgeous twinkling lights that set everything aglow, the Christmas trees put up all around the place, the wreaths on storefront doors, the candy-cane carts selling their custom-made flavors, the garland crinkling down lamp posts, and the Christmas card exchanges at schools and homes everywhere. She loves the cheer that brims in the very air she breathes, and the loving happiness seen on every viscet's face around this holiday. She adores gift-giving - and getting a few herself! - and she likes that the colder weather encourages others to buy her wares: crocheted and knitted scarves, mittens, hats, fingerless gloves, and earmuffs. She may hate eating fruitcake, but she likes giving the odd bread-like dessert as a gift, so every year she bakes one and gives it to her grandmother, who seems to enjoy it just fine. Yara adores the children who sing Christmas carols off-key and loudly for everyone to hear - they make her laugh and remember a simpler time when she was happier, when her parents were alive. The Christmas cheer that warms her heart always reminds her parents, so while there are moments of the Christmas season that are bittersweet for her, she still loves the holiday nevertheless and counts herself blest every time she is able to celebrate it with close friends and what little of her family is left. Yara has a fondness for hot cocoa, marshmallows, white chocolate, and mint-flavored stuff, so Christmas is her favorite time of year to try new treats, as well. She loves sitting at a table with her friends and siblings to partake of their traditional Christmas dinner: roast turkey, roast chicken, boatloads of gravy, mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, corn, peas, stuffing, garlic bread, crescent rolls, sourdough bread, strawberry jam, blackberry jam, peach jam, yogurt butter, apple butter, pumpkin pie, iced sugar cookies, oreo cheesecake, and cherry cheesecake. Yara often helps her siblings and friends cook the meal - but she's not the most fabulous cook around, so she prefers to do the desserts. Baking is her passion, and she'll often bake meals for her friends who are less fortunate than she around the holidays, so that she at least knows that they'll get something to eat come Christmas day. Yara truly does get into the Christmas spirit each and every year, and always looks forward to this most wonderful of days the entire year round.
